Western Balkans Mobility Scheme – A POLICY ANSWERS Pilot Programme Enhances Collaboration Between University of East Sarajevo and University of Belgrade
30.01.2025
Dr. Miodrag Forcan, Assistant Professor at the University of East Sarajevo, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, successfully completed the first phase of a scientific research mobility program at the University of Belgrade, School of Electrical Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Goran Dobrić, Associate Professor at the same institution. The mobility took place during December 2024 as part of the Western Balkans Mobility Scheme – A POLICY ANSWERS Pilot Programme, funded by the Horizon project POLICY ANSWERS – R&I Policy Making, Implementation, and Support in the Western Balkans.
Dr. Forcan’s research focused on the initial phase of the ReCMARES project (Real-Time Control of Microgrid Assets Incorporating Renewable Energy Sources). Key activities included: Design and development of an advanced microgrid control algorithm; Planning and setup of a software and hardware simulation environment for algorithm testing.
During the mobility program, a general algorithm for a centralized microgrid controller was conceptualized, and an initial experimental setup for real-time testing of microgrid control algorithms was proposed.
The experimental setup includes: Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) device, Power amplifier, Power converter, Battery energy storage system, and Digital controller. This state-of-the-art setup is specifically designed to handle both power signals and information (control) signals, enabling a comprehensive evaluation of microgrid control strategies under realistic conditions.
This collaboration highlights the importance of regional scientific mobility programs in fostering advanced research and innovation in critical areas such as renewable energy integration and microgrid technologies.
